Gas Boilers

Save money with an energy efficient gas boiler

If you already have an old gas boiler, it may be worth looking for an upgrade as some of the older models give off harmful omissions, especially if they have experienced a great amount of wear. Their efficiency also begins to deteriorate, so you could end up paying unnecessarily high fuel bills. Boilers account for around 60% of what you spend in a year on energy bills, so an efficient boiler makes a big difference.

An A-rated energy efficient gas central heating boiler will keep your home warm and your water hot while cutting your energy bills and doing your bit for the environment.

You can select from a range of the latest regular condensing gas boilers and gas combi boilers from the big name manufacturers like Valiant, Viessman and Worcester.

Regular boiler or gas combi boiler – what is the difference?

Most old gas boilers are regular boilers – this means they heat your water and store it in a separate hot water cylinder (usually in the airing cupboard).

A combi (combination) boiler heats water on demand and supplies it direct to your taps.

Both provide hot water to heat your radiators when activated by a programmer or controller.

A regular boiler is more efficient than a combi boiler at producing hot water in the first place, but then some heat is lost from the hot water cylinder.

Regular boiler or gas combi boiler – which is best for you?

How much hot water do you use?

A large family using lots of hot water could be better off with a regular boiler – a smaller household using less may be better off with a combi.

Are you short of space?

  • Combi boilers dispense with the need for the hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard and other tanks in the loft needed by regular boilers and heating systems.
  • In a combi boiler all the major components are housed in one compact unit which usually sits in the kitchen or utility room, or perhaps the airing cupboard. This makes them  convenient to install and saving space for the householder.

A Combi boiler also delivers hot water to your taps or shower at mains pressure – so you can enjoy powerful showering without the need for a pump.

Are you thinking of installing solar water heating? Many combis are not compatible with solar water heating or cannot use it so effectively.
